I am offering to business leaders the very services that I needed and used in my 20+ years of leadership positions at a large multi-national corporation: outsourced consulting services sold on a project or fee basis.
When I was managing a team of 10 global alliance managers, half of that team were temporary consultants that I funded using part of my marketing budget. Temporary experts allowed me the freedom to bring on and remove staff immediately, and they served as a productive extension of my team.
For example, I used consultants to extend my team in 3 different ways:
First, at the simplest level, I identified repeatable work that I could "processize" and hand over to a consultant to do, rather than use one of my experienced employees for such task-oriented activities.
Second, at a more advanced level, I used consultants to build and implement new marketing and business programs for me, and they implemented jointly with my staff.
Third, at the most advanced level, I used consultants as strategists to bring in an objective, experienced, third-party view to our annual planning sessions.
